Cedar Cedric is an early ripening parthenocarpic variety that does not need to be pollinated artificially or with the help of insects. It is a hybrid of F1, because of which it is impossible to obtain seeds for planting at home. The variety is grown in different ways - in a greenhouse or in open ground.

Cedar cucumbers
Cedric has a high yield and cucumbers can be harvested for two months
General characteristics of cucumbers
Description of the bushes:
- bush of indeterminate type (the central stem is not limited in growth);
- branching - medium;
- type of flowering - female;
- the root system is powerful;
- on the side is the average number of stems;
- leaf color - saturated green;
- the size of the leaf part is insignificant;
- 4-5 cucumbers are tied in one knot;
- stems are not very pubescent.
Description of the fruit:
- shape - cylindrical elongated;
- surface - smooth, medium tuberous;
- ribbing is practically absent;
- there are white small spikes;

- the length of the greenery is from 10 to 14 cm (in the gherkin stage - only 5 cm);
- It is used for salting, canning, cooking salads.
The fruits of Cedric ripen gradually, so you can harvest for 2 months. If grown indoors or in a greenhouse, 2 turns are possible. For the full ripening of a cucumber, a minimum of 35 days must pass.
The hybrid is characterized by abundant fruiting and increased productivity - per 1 square. m accounts for 18-22 kg of fruit. Due to the localization of most of the cucumbers on the main stem, harvesting is greatly simplified.
Pros and cons
Benefits:
- the highest level of productivity;
- bundle type of ovary;
- root system power;
- the ability to grow year-round and in any conditions (in the greenhouse, in the open garden, on the windowsill);
- good presentation, transportability;
- crop stability throughout the period;
- disease resistance;
- unpretentiousness (not afraid of temperature changes and lack of sunlight);
- lack of a bitter aftertaste;
- early ripeness;
- universality of use;
- stress resistance.
Based on the feedback from gardeners, there are practically no shortcomings. The only negative is the rather high cost of seed, which must be purchased every year.
Features of planting and care
Cedric variety can be grown in 2 ways - seedlings and seedlings (seeds immediately into the ground). In the second case, the main condition is necessary - the absence of frost, well-warmed soil. The minimum temperature should be + 13-15 degrees.
Features:
- If you initially plant seedlings, then the yield increases, the ripening period decreases.
- When planting seedlings in greenhouse conditions, the seeds are laid in early April. When planting in the garden - in mid-May.
- It is undesirable to plant Cedric after cultivation in the area of zucchini, pumpkin, carrots, beans. The best predecessors are leafy salads and cabbage, green manure, green peas.
- Cucumbers in one place can be grown for 4-5 years.
- The optimum temperature for cucumbers is from 20 to 22 degrees.
- Culture needs periodic top dressing, cultivation, watering. Be sure to remove weeds, stepsons. The side shoots are nipped, but the main stem is not required to form.
Planting seeds
Preparation and planting of seeds and seedlings:
- Purchased seeds are prepared as follows: put 2 tbsp. In 800 ml of water. l table salt, mix thoroughly and place the seed material. Hollow elements float to the surface (they are thrown out).
- Next, the seed is placed in a weak solution of manganese for disinfection, which will prevent the development of diseases. Keep in liquid for 15-20 minutes, then rinse under running water and lay on moistened gauze.
- To sustain a couple of days (during this time the seeds should give the first sprouts).
- Moisten the soil substrate, lay out the seeds with a tape method, sprinkle with soil.
- Cover the container with foil.
- Maintain a temperature of 23-25 degrees.
- After the formation of seedlings, the film is removed and the temperature regime is reduced to +20 degrees.
- A week before the dive, take out the box daily in a cool place - initially for an hour, then time increases. This contributes to the speedy adaptation of the plant after planting in other conditions.
- Seedlings are transplanted into a greenhouse or open soil after the formation of 4 leaves.
How and when to plant cucumbers for seedlings is described in more detail here.
Transfer
After transplanting into the ground for the first 7-10 days, the cucumbers are covered with film material at night. Dive Rules:
- The soil is pre-fertilized with minerals. Top dressing should contain phosphorus, zinc and iron elements. Peat, humus, compost or manure must be added. It is advisable to add urea and sprinkle the soil with a mixture of chalk and wood ash.
- For 1 square. m have no more than 3 bushes.
- Bookmark depth - from 10 to 14 cm.
- The distance between each plant is 20-25 cm.
Cedric adapts to any soil, even with a high salt content, but the soil reaction should be neutral. Before planting seedlings or seeds, loosening and fluffing is mandatory.
Bush formation
To increase the number of fruits on a plant, you need to properly form a bush:
- tear off the 5 bottom sheets and stepsons;
- remove lateral shoots along with the ovaries (the latter remain mainly on the central stem);
- raise the lashes and tie in the trellis;
- when 5 leaves appear on shoots grown in nodes, the tip is pinched.
Garter
Garter varieties are carried out on the following elements:
- cord;
- trellis;
- mesh, etc.
Watering
Watering this plant is necessary as the soil dries. Cracking should not be allowed. Cedric loves high humidity, but despite this, the roots should not be in stagnant water, as this leads to rotting, the development of diseases and the attack of slugs.
Before fruiting, watering is carried out once a week (on average), after - once in 4 days. The irrigation method is drip.
Top dressing
Of fertilizers, preference should be given to organic matter, complex minerals and folk remedies.
Weeding
Harvesting weeds is the main condition when growing Cedric, so the grass is removed as it grows.
Diseases and Pests
The variety is resistant to a disease such as cladosporiosis, but with improper care can be exposed to other diseases and pests:
- Fusarium
- powdery mildew;
- aphid;
- spider mite;
- whitefly;
- cucumber mosaic.

For treatment, appropriate means are used, but for preventive purposes it is necessary to adhere to such rules:
- do not overmoisten the soil;
- prevent drought;
- to fertilize;
- do not water with cold water;
- regularly inspect the bushes and remove the affected areas.
To scare away insect pests, you can use a universal folk remedy: plant dill greens, garlic or onions between the rows of Cedric.
How to collect and store crops?
Harvesting depends on the goals:
- for preservation of fruits, the size should be from 5 to 10 cm;
- for salting - from 8 to 12;
- for fresh consumption - 10 cm or more.
Cooling is necessary for storing the variety, so vegetables are placed in a cellar or refrigerator. Shelf life is 1-2 months.
Reviews
Olga, 45 years old. I grow Cedric for 5 years - never had any problems. It’s easy to take care of the variety, the main thing is to timely feed and water the bushes. But I want to draw attention to the fact that when watering you can not allow water to fall on the foliage. The fruits themselves are crispy and of the same size, so they look beautiful in jars. And the taste is very good.
Victor, 56 years old. I have been growing Cedric for two years. The first time I tried to plant half of the seedlings of seedlings, half - immediately into the ground. In principle, the crop is not bad in both cases, but with the seedling method there are still more cucumbers. And yet, although it is recommended to make a garter, I do not do this, my whips are on the ground, but I plant bushes at a distance of half a meter from each other. The only condition is that there should not be frequent rains. In general, a versatile and tasty variety.

Cucumber Cedric fell in love with many gardeners for their unpretentiousness in growing. With good care, the variety is not exposed to diseases and pest attacks, gives an excellent harvest, and the fruits themselves are characterized by increased crispness, juiciness and excellent taste. But to achieve such results, you must strictly adhere to the simple rules of care and landing.
